To prepare your child academically, socially and spiritually for kindergarten.
Preschool is a part of our children’s ministry for boys and girls who are three, four, and five years old.
In accordance with the resolution on dependent care adopted by the 1984 General Conference of the United Methodist Church, the purpose of the Weekday Preschool of LFUMC is to develop and offer a program that will minister to the needs of children and families of this community by offering quality and affordable early childhood education.
It is our goal to develop age level appropriate learning experiences that will help children love to learn, play and live happily together.
As a ministry of Lebanon First UMC, our school is committed to not only offering a program consistent with the highest type of early childhood education, but also to provide an atmosphere and opportunity in which children and teachers are learning to live in a Christ-like way.
We attempt to create and develop: A feeling of belonging, self-discipline, love and respect, ability to solve problems, friendliness, self-esteem and self- confidence, to express individualism, to take part in group experiences.
We attempt to supply a discipline characterized by:
- Consistency, firmness, understanding and patience,
- Limitations…gently enforced, accepting a child’s
- feelings, providing acceptable outlets for strong feelings.
Our program is a flexible one full of experiences that are planned to meet the needs of children who are three, four, and five years old. We offer dramatic play, music enrichment also provided with weekly participation in music class and literature provided in the form of books and taped stories in our listening center. Literacy is also promoted in weekly library classes with our school librarian(s).
Exercise is encouraged by running, pushing, pulling, climbing and the use of large blocks on our playground and in the gymnasium.
We offer a Parent’s Day Out Program on Mondays and Thursdays under the supervision of Jennie Howell. Children wishing to enroll in the afternoon session after Preschool should call 444-3315 for more information.

Originally from Ohio, I moved to Nashville following graduation from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. I moved to this wonderful town of Lebanon almost 17 years ago after marrying my terrific husband, Jason. Jason was born and raised in Lebanon and most of his family still resides here. We have been blessed with an amazing daughter, Emma, who attends Winfree Bryant Middle School. We are often quite busy with Emma’s competitive gymnastic schedule, but in our down time we enjoy doing things with our family and friends. In the summer, we try to get in lots of pool time!
Jason, Emma and I have been attending FUMC for over 10 years. The preschool program has always held a special place in my heart. My mother-in-law taught here, our daughter, Emma, attended the program, I became the Pre-K 4 teacher five years ago, and now I am the director as well. I believe teaching our children is one of the most important jobs God has given us. I enjoy every day with the Preschool students. It is a blessing to see their shining faces each morning and I love to watch them learn throughout the year! Their abilities to learn and the questions they ask, especially during our bible lessons, are an incredible exemplification of God and His presence in our hearts and minds!
“…for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13

An Army brat, I grew up in many different states and countries. My father retired to Lebanon when I was fifteen, and I’ve stayed firmly planted ever since! A graduate of Lebanon High and Cumberland University, I went on to teach middle school for nearly seven years before starting a family. My husband Chris and I have two daughters, Jenna and Julia, who are both involved in sports and keep us in a gym or at a ball park quite often.
I’m excited to begin my first year teaching preschool here at FUMC. In some capacity or another, I’ve been a teacher my entire adult life, and I’m not sure there’s any better feeling in the world than watching the faces of students and the spark in their eyes as they experience that “lightbulb” moment.
