                   From the Pastor

It was good to receive five new members from Mary Chaffin United Methodist Church: Billy Carr, Tim Vanhook, Rhea Sears, Mary Ellen Heflin, and Agnes Neal.  It was also good to "upgrade" Patrick, Rachael, Mason and Valerie Winfree from associate members to full members.  We also received Wayne Ray and Cory, Kellie and Lydia Deffendall as new members.  Welcome to our church family.

Thanks to all of you who helped make "Fantastically Fun Follies" a great success.  We had a lot of fun together as a church family and discovered hidden talent in the congregation. This event was virtually all lay driven, with little staff involvement. I'm always proud of the many capable laypeople in our congregation. This quality event was yet another confirmation of the "can do" ability and spirit of our people.

Summer is in full swing. Many of us have or will be out for vacation time. When you are gone, I hope you have a great time traveling.  When you are here, please join us for worship and Sunday School.

As always, I love being your pastor. Thank you for the privilege of serving among you.

                                                        Martin

Outreach...
A New Prayer List for our Members and Friends in the Military is located on the bulletin board next to the Ladies Room. Feel free to add names.

UMCOR is a United Methodist organization that is one of the first on scene and one of the last to leave. They are currently helping with the disaster that Hurricane Katrina left behind. UMCOR currently needs Health and Flood Kits urgently. You can pick up a Needs List outside the office for information on how to assemble or provide for these kits. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated, whether it be your time or your contribution. The Church will ship any kits or supplies to the provided address from UMCOR. Your donations can be put in the boxes outside the office.

A Prayer Shawl Ministry has been formed which will provide a shawl for someone needing comfort. It can be knitted or crocheted. An individual will be praying for the individual as the shawl is made. This ministry can be done by an individual in the home as opposed to meeting in a group setting. For more information call Lavena Jobe, 449-9905 or Lois Hackett, 443-0617 for patterns and information.
